Welcome to Policy Development and Advocacy in Global Health. This online course explores why and how health policy decisions are made and how you can engage in the public policy process to improve health equity around the world; presents frameworks to help define public health problems, analyze and prioritize policy solutions, map stakeholder interests, anticipate policy implementation barriers, engage in global health diplomacy and policy negotiations, and develop policy advocacy strategies. The course modules, especially the introductory module, provide you with the information you need to be successful in the course, but please always reach out to me with questions or concerns. Course Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

1. Analyze health policy issues using a framework that integrates empirical evidence and values (global, national, and local);
2. Identify and use appropriate tools to advocate for policy changes;
3. Identify key stakeholders (international, national, and local) in policy issues and describe their respective roles in whether and how those issues are resolved;
4. Describe current trends in health system reform globally and the challenges and opportunities those trends present;
5. Describe the major issues concerning health policy faced by developing countries and policy options for addressing those issues; and
6. Make effective oral and written presentations on global health policy issues.
