Course Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the global epidemiology, natural history, and pathophysiology of HIV and analyze how these factors inform contemporary global strategies for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.
- Perform a comprehensive clinical assessment and disease staging for individuals with HIV, utilizing both CDC and WHO classification frameworks to guide diagnosis, management, and ongoing monitoring.
- Implement evidence-based strategies for HIV prevention and treatment, including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis and antiretroviral therapy, while evaluating key considerations related to regimen selection, adherence, and treatment failure.
- Differentiate and manage common co-infections and comorbidities among people living with HIV, including tuberculosis, opportunistic infections, HIV-associated malignancies, and non-communicable diseases.
- Apply patient-centered principles in the management of HIV across special populations, including women, children, adolescents, and key populations, with attention to social, biological, and structural determinants influencing health outcomes.
