AI can be a valuable study tool when used ethically and responsibly. In this video, we explain how AI can be useful in your work and highlight some precautions to consider when using AI. Our statement on AI use for our online courses is below.

Statement on Using AI

The instructor(s) understand that generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools (such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, or similar programs) may be helpful for tasks like explaining difficult concepts or cleaning up text you’ve written. You are welcome to use AI tools to clarify your ideas or refine language for better readability.

However, using AI to write or significantly revise responses to course assignments or activities is not acceptable and constitutes academic misconduct. Copying and pasting AI-generated content into discussion posts or assignments, or providing AI with assignment prompts or instructions, is not allowed. Doing so hinders your learning and development, as the focus of this course is on building your own skills and expressing your ideas.

Also note that AI-generated text may contain factual errors or misinterpretations, especially when dealing with complex scientific concepts, so be sure to check.

If you’re unsure about how to use AI appropriately in this course, feel free to ask for clarification.
